2-14 Sept 1752 – Canada switched to the Gregorian calendar on 2 Sept 1752 and skipped immediately to 14 Sept 1752. (Ancestry March April 2007 p20).

12 Sept 1759 – British soldiers captured the town of Quebec. (Chch Star 12 Sept 2014. Today in history).

1794-1802 – The Royal Canadian volunteers RCV were recruited in lower Canada, now east Quebec, from 1794, on 19 May 1796 and disbanded on 25 Sept 1802. (Family history August 2009 p61).

5 Nov 1813 – John Garrison born 5 Nov 1813 at Jemseg New Brunswick Canada, an orphan whose mother died in childbirth and father a sea captain who was lost at sea. Still looking. (Ancestry March April 2007 p51).

1832-1937 – National archives in Ottawa has a Database. 33,000 immigrants to Grosse Ile Qar station in St Lawrence between 1832 and 1937. (Family history monthly. August 2003 p61 ).

1832-1847 – Grosse Ile in 1832, the coffin ships and cholera to Canada from Ireland and Liverpool. 25,000 people had died in an epidemic that devastated Ireland in 1832. 1,000 victims were buried in mass graves in Grosse Ile valley of death into Canada Feb 1847 American ports were closed to the plague ridden Irish 1847 typhus deaths. 28 May 1845 – A fire in Quebec destroyed 1,500 houses (timeline internet).

1847 – Partridge island off St Johns New Brunswick was a quarantine station. It received 17,000 Irish from 99 ships of which 2,000 died on the voyage or in quarantine. Quebec and Montreal were effected. Many of the surviving Irish settled in Montreal. (The great shame Irish ©(1998 Thomas Kenealy).

May – June 1847 – May 1847, 30 ships with 10,000 immigrants were waiting at Grosse Ile. On 5 June 1847, 25,000 Irish were quarantined on Grosse Ile or in ships. Quarantine island was Grosse Ile which was screened off from the city of Quebec. ( The great shame Irish ©1998 Thomas Keneally).

30 Oct 1847 – As bad as the slave trade, dumping on Canada, half naked paupers, aged, infirm beggars and vagrants, Irish famine immigrants. The “Eliza” and “Liddell” in St John New Brunswick brought aged and invalid widows and children the “lord Ashburton” in Quebec 30 Oct 1847, 477 passengers, 107 passengers were buried at sea 672 from overcrowding and fever almost naked paupers. 1848-1891 – 40 year old Walter South arrived in Quebec on the 'Sardinian' 23 Sept 1888. Louth or South. The only Walter South was born in 1848 and died in infancy. Walter Louth at a farm in Portage la Prarrie Manitoba in 1891. Fruit farm. Unlikely to be operating a fruit farm in Manitoba, because it ws too cold for that. (Who do you think you are. British home children emigration scheme. 100,000 children were sent to Canada between 1870 and 1957. The “Nestorian” sailed on 22 May 1871, with 99 children on board. 1891 – Isabella Cottier born 1885. In 1891 she was put in the Douglas industrial home UK, 4 days before the census, then sent to Canada by the Scottish quarries charity. (Family history monthly March 2004 p50).

1914-1919 – Arthur Ernst Ewert was born in east Prussia in 1890. He trained as a communist. He emigrated to Canada in 1914 with Elise his wife. After the Russian revolution of 1917 they helped set up the communist party in Canada. On 23 March 1919 Toronto police arrested them as enemy aliens, they were deported to the US, Detroit. 1925-1935 – The Canadian National archive has a database of immigrants who arrived in Canada between 1925 and 1935. (Family history monthly. August 2003 p62).

1940s – In 2009 more than 50 Mount Cashel victims still had legal civil suits in the Canadian courts. Child sex abuse cases dating back to the 1940s.

1943 – At the beginning of 1943 Dr Bruno Pontecorvo joined the British atomic team in Canada, eventually working at Chalk river in Ontario, nuclear research project. In October 1950, defection of leading Harwell nuclear scientist Dr Bruno Pontecorvo, a specialist in design and operation of heavy water reactors. He disappeared behind the iron curtain, with his wife and family, while in Italy. An Italian physicist fled to France because he was Jewish and had relations in the Italian Communist party. 1945 – Soviet cipher clerk Igor Gouzenko defected from the Soviet embassy in Ottowa Canada. Code named 'Operation Bride', later changed to 'Operation Drug', then to 'Operation Venona'. 1945-56 – 'Operation DEW WORM'. The RCMP had recruited a contractor who was rebuilding the Russian embassy and had installed RCMP officers undercover as workmen on the site. With the help of Igor Gouzenko, a Russian who had worked inside the old embassy as a cipher clerk until he defected to the Canadians in 1945. Guernsey pinpointed where KGB and GRU secret sections and cipher rooms were located.

5 September 1945 – Igor Gouzenko, a clerk in the Soviet embassy in Ottawa Canada defected to Canada. Gouzenko’s disclosures of wartime Soviet espionage activities in Canada and the US lead to an FBI investigation of suspect US Federal employees.

August 1961 – A Soviet scientist who defected to Canada Mikhail A Klochko, a specialist in water chemistry and a Stalin prize winner. A professor and head of a lab at the Kurnakov institute in Moscow. He apparently escaped from his KGB minders while attending a conference in Ottawa and got political asylum from the Canadian government.

1985-87 – A Canadian lawyer Patrick Anthony Good laundered $7.5 million in cash through BCCI’s Vancouver branch. About $3 million was converted into US dollars with the rest transferred overseas.

12 Dec 1985 – A plane took of from Newfoundland Canada, Arrow Air flight 1285, it crashed and all 256 passengers and crew were killed. Including 248 US troops. The plane was bound for Egypt, refuelling in Newfoundland Canada, then on to the US. Canada said it was not an accident.
