1870 – Bank Handlowy BHW or Citi Handlowy is a Polish bank in Warsaw. It was established in 1870. It is one of the oldest banks in Poland and Europe.

1939 – 1 Sept 1939 Hitler invaded Poland. On 8 Oct 1939 Polish Jews and non Jews were starved. Polish language and books were burned. Designed to abolish all traces of Polish history and culture. The first mass executions of World War two in Wawer near Warsaw Poland on 27 Dec 1939. 107 Polish men were shot.

1940 – Stalin authorised the murder at Katyn and elsewhere, in spring 1940, of at least 15,000 Polish officers, captured during the invasion that followed the Nazi Soviet pact. 8 Dec 1941 – In occupied Poland near Lodz, chelmno extermination camps begin operation. Jews taken there are placed in mobile gas vans and driven to a burial place where carbon monoxide from the engine exhaust is fed into the sealed rear killing them. The first gassing victims include 5,000 gypsies who had been deported from the Reich to Lodz. (History place. Holocaust timeline).

19 July 1942 – Himmler orders Operation Reinhard mass deportations of Jews in Poland to extermination camps. (History place. Holocaust timeline).

1943-45 – The Katyn forest massacre in the early war years. Thousands of captive Polish officers were killed. Col John Van Vliet, a US army officer on the scene as a German POW examined bodies and data, when he was freed in 1945 he wrote a report saying the Soviets were responsible. 1943-45 – A US house committee, Ray Madden said that reports reflecting badly on the Kremlin were disposed of. Also Col Henry Szynanski. Army intel G-2, files moved to the dead files of that agency. 3 Nov 1943 – Nazis carry out Operation Harvest Festival in occupied Poland killing 42,000 Jews. (History place. Holocaust timeline).

6 August 1944 – Lodz the last Jewish ghetto in Poland is liquidated with 60,000 Jews sent to Auschwitz. (History place. Holocaust timeline).

1970-78 – Gierek came to power in 1970 after strikes. Gomulka, eastrn Europe. Gierek built new factoiries. 1980-85 – William Bell at Hughes aircraft corp 1980. Marian Zacharski was a Polish intel officer. Bell gave classified defence info to Zacharski. Aug 1980 – March 1981 – In Aug 1980 in Poland 20,000 workers barricaded themselves into the Lenin shipyard in Galansk, strikes were led by Lech Walesa. 300,000 workers went on strike across Poland 31 Aug 1980, Sept 1980 a descendant of count Potocki, one of Poland’s aristrocrats. May Dec 1981 – On 13 May 1981 Poland was tense, Mehemet Ali Agca, a Turk, fired a shot that almost killed the pope in St Petersberg Rome Italy. On 13 Dec 1981 General Jareszelski declared martial law in Poland and put the Polish army in control. 6,000 people were arrested, thousands of people were charged and many people were killed, unions were banned.
