1502 – West Africa, St Helens island was discovered by Portugal in 1502. The British east India company colony in 1657. A slave island, with a population of 1,000 people, half of them were slaves. Born on St Helens island in 1857 as a slave. (Who do you think you are. May 2013 UK).

1 Nov 1755 – 8.7 earthquake. Timetoast.

1777-1808 – In 1777 old king Joseph died and Portugal was ruled by young Queen Maria. Her husband was King Pedro III. In 1786 Pedro died. Two years later a smallpox epidemic killed several people close to Queen Maria. In 1807 Queen Maria was smuggled into Brazil.
